Dr Barbara Sedumedi

Chemical Pathology

Dr Barbara Sedumedi obtained her undergraduate medical degree  at the Medical University of South Africa (Medunsa), now called Sefako Makgatho Health Science University - (SMU) in 1996. She completed her internship at Garankuwa  hospital, now called Dr George Mukhari (DGM) hospital, where she continued to work as a medical officer in Internal Medicine department, HIV and Pulmology clinics, before pursuing her postgraduate training in Chemical Pathology. In 2008, Dr Sedumedi obtained her Masters in Medicine (Chemical Pathology) degree at the university of Limpopo (Medunsa campus). She worked as a pathologist and lecturer at the NHLS-DGM/ SMU complex until 2017. During this period she was a member of the Chemistry Expert Committee and School of Pathology Research Committee and enjoyed teaching and training of undergraduate medical students. Dr Sedumedi joined Ampath in 2017, initially overseeing a number of Stat Labs around Gauteng North, Rustenburg and Thabazimbi, but now based in Specialised Chemistry department at the National Reference Laboratory. She enjoys most aspects of the laboratory medicine and recently joined Ampath Clinical Trials Committee as a member.
