Dr Marieke Brauer
Dr Marieke Brauer obtained her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Pretoria in 2005, following which she completed her internship and community service at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital (Johannesburg General Hospital). She embarked on her lifelong dream to become a virologist when she started her registrar training at the University of Pretoria and also completed a Diploma in HIV Medicine during this time. She obtained her FC Path (SA) Viro degree in 2013 and MMed (Path) Virol degree in 2015. Dr Brauer joined the Immunology department at the Ampath National Reference Laboratory in 2017. She has a special interest in serological testing for infectious diseases, quality control for infectious disease serology assays, assay validations/verifications, and emerging infectious diseases. She currently serves as the Immunology Peer Group Leader for Ampath.
