Dr Marita du Plessis
Dr Marita du Plessis obtained her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Pretoria in 1993. After qualification, she worked at the Pretoria Academic Hospital, and then moved to I Military Hospital where she worked in Paediatrics for 2 years. She spent a year in the United Kingdom as Resident Medical Officer in private hospitals. Dr Marita obtained her FC Path (Chem) (SA)and MMed (Chem Path) in 2002 at Pretoria University. She joined the Ampath team as a Chemical Pathologist in Pretoria in 2005, where she later became involved with laboratory automation and establishment of the Autolab in Ampath's National Reference Laboratory (NRL). Currently she is mainly involved with review and setup of reference ranges for chemistry tests, as well as development and programming of more integrated interpretive comments. Her main interests are diabetes, calcium and bone metabolism, cardiac markers and investigation of endocrinological disorders, including dynamic testing and the interpretation of various selective sampling procedures.
