Dr Mark Cruz da Silva
Dr. Mark da Silva completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Cape Town in 1990, followed by his internship at Red Cross Children’s Hospital, Somerset Hospital, and Groote Schuur Hospital. His time at Red Cross Children’s Hospital inspired his pursuit of a career in Clinical Microbiology.
He went on to complete his postgraduate studies at UCT, earning his FC Path (SA) Micro qualification in 1997. That same year, he joined the van Drimmelen Practice, remaining with the team as it transitioned into the Ampath group.
In 2012, Dr. da Silva moved into the Department of Immunology, where his work has primarily focused on infectious diseases and autoimmunity, with additional interests in allergy and inborn errors of immunity. His professional passions include human relations, antimicrobial stewardship, challenging-to-culture organisms, and quality management. More recently, he has developed a strong interest in neuroimmunology.
Dr. da Silva is an active member of several professional societies, including the Federation of Infectious Disease Societies of Southern Africa (FIDSSA), the South African Immunological Society (SAIS), and the Allergy Society of South Africa (ALLSA).
